he stepped up from the sidewalk onto a front step which offered at least a dimmed square metre of brown-brick to welcome him - before thrusting in his face a replica eighteenth century porch light - whose glass rim had a little bubble in it from where the manufacturing machine had completed its carress. the shield itself, was ill fitting, and sat awkwardly in the metal case from which it bloomed. the dust coating it was illuminated with a cone type globe - at one point some bulb designer had received notority for this kind of obselete fashion fumbling that still lined the market shelves internationally. now - it just reminded him of all her representations.

the mundane nature of her front step made him shrink back in smallness as he recognised that his feelings for her transposed her position in life. his feelings - removed this district she lived in, with all its replicas - rank with businessmen from gentlemen's clubs staying in nearby hotels. it was a two minute walk from central station. despite what he transposed - it was always onto a moving moving target he centered it.
